Aviemore and Area Learning Project
Aviemore and Area Learning Project aim to provide informal, low cost, inspirational and creative learning opportunities to adults in Aviemore and the surrounding area. They aim to provide learning which is enjoyable but will also engage people in the process of learning, with qualifications as a possible outcome and therefore improved employment opportunities. They offer courses on a number of subjects: IT, Genealogy, Adobe Photoshop, Gaelic, French and Spanish. Also available are ESOL classes in partnership with a local employer.

Apex Scotland
Apex Scotland is a national organisation that helps offenders, ex-offenders and young people at risk of offending to take the steps that will move them closer towards getting a job, training for work, or enrolling in a course at college. Locally, Apex has partnerships with organisations who work with people who have previous or stabilised substance misuse issues. Apex is a branded partner with LearnDirect Scotland and this works in parallel with the various courses its service users have access to and enhances their employment prospects.

Cairngorms Learning Partnership
The Cairngorms Learning Partnership comprises a network of learning centres working together in the Cairngorms National Park. The network delivers a range of courses, workshops and bespoke learning opportunities to provide quality service and a variety of subjects at different levels from short introductory sessions, language skills, vocational and non-vocational subjects to degree level studies. Learners engaged on courses are encouraged to drop in to their local learning centre for support, study and practice. Tutor support is available for individuals and businesses by arrangement.
Working with colleges of the UHI and Aberdeen University, using state of the art technology eg. video conferencing, webcams, internet as well as the more traditional hard copy materials, we bring learning into the heart of the local community. When it comes to doing the final exams, arrangements are often possible for exams to be done at the local learning centre.
Through our business hub and team of expert trainers, we can provide Business management and development workshops, Personal development training, Legislative training e.g. Food Hygiene, Servewise, Health & Safety

A government organisation for people of all ages, providing services to support career planning. The Careers Scotland network has centres across Scotland and they also meet with customers in a range of community locations. They use the latest technology to offer a service that is more convenient and they seek to provide assistance tailored to the customers' individual needs.

Calman Trust
The Calman Trust works with young people aged 16 to 25 around the theme of independent living skills. As part of this independence it is important that you can read, write and use numbers so that you can manage everyday tasks like paying bills and shopping on a budget. Calman offers group and one to one learning opportunities based around literacy needs, wants and interests. They are located in Inverness, Dingwall and Alness.

Communities Team, Learning and Teaching Scotland(LTS)
The Communities team has been established to lead policy implementation and practice development across Community Learning and Development in Scotland (CLD). The core strands of the work are: community-based lifelong learning, with a particular focus on adult literacy and numeracy and ESOL; youth work; and community capacity building. All these areas are delivered in a variety of settings by a wide range of providers including local authorities, colleges and third sector organisations.
A new policy team has been formed within the Further and Adult Education Division of the Lifelong Learning Directorate in the Scottish Government. Headed by Peter Beaumont, the new Learning Communities team is responsible for policies in community learning and development (CLD), adult literacy and numeracy (ALN), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and college learning, teaching and qualifications. The policy team will work closely with the new LTS Communities team and with the Standards Council for CLD.

Eden Court Theatre
The Arts Education Department of Eden Court Theatre partners other organisations to create projects involving drama and literacy skills. 'Behind the Scenes' was a project with adults with learning difficulties. It looked at working from storytelling to simple script work, then finally making a video film of people's written work.
Another project, Beginners' Guide to Nairn, used drama to work with people whose first language was not English. Eden Court also partnered Adult Basic Education to deliver Recording Music, a music and literacies course for young people which resulted in a CD recording of the groups own lyrical efforts.

Highland Council - Adult Basic Education Service
Offers free one-to-one and small group tuition in literacy, numeracy, ICT skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and study support. Highland Council - Libraries
A network of 43 built and 12 mobile libraries support literacy initiatives in a number of ways. They provide on-line public internet access at all built libraries and they have made computer software for literacies learners available to every library in Highland through the People's Network. Librarians, ABE staff, tutors and learners have been trained in the use of these resources. They have established a website for Reader Development for adults with a particular focus on adults with low basic literacy skills.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE)
HIE is the development agency for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Its activities include provision of business support services, delivery of training and learning programmes, assistance for community and cultural projects and measures for environmental renewal. HIE offers a variety of skills development programmes such as Modern Apprenticeships, Skillseekers and Training for Work. Inverness College
Inverness College offers individual help to mainstream students through extended learning support. It also provides classes for students whose first language is not English. Workshops run on a drop-in basis provide support with communication which includes reading, writing and presentation skills.

Isle of Skye Language Centre
Located in Portree, the Isle of Skye Language Centre offers classes in all levels of ESOL from beginning to Cambridge Exam preparation and classes in other languages such as Spanish, French, and Czech. Isobel Rhind Centre
A Resource Centre and part of the Highland Council Social Work Service which provides day time activities for adults with learning disability in Easter Ross. The Isobel Rhind Centre aims to promote the service users' independence, provide a safe friendly environment and enhance the quality of life through mental and physical stimulation, encouragement and support. The Centre operates a person centred approach to care, involving opportunities for employment, education, community links, socialising, outdoor activities and much more. Lead Scotland
Enables disabled adults and carers to access education and learning opportunities. The local Organiser provides educational guidance and support in the home or at an agreed venue, offering confidentiality, involving trained volunteers. Work is in partnership with colleges, learning centres, and voluntary organisations to tailor support with learning to the needs of the individual. Learndirect Scotland
In direct support of the Scottish Governments Skills for Scotland strategy, the mission of learndirect scotland is to help individuals and small businesses across Scotland to realise their potential through learning, at a time, place, pace and style that suits their needs. A national network of over 500 Learning Centres offer a recognised resource within their community, providing safe, welcoming and supportive learning environments where learners can make guided choices about what, how and when they learn. Within Highland there are 42 learning centres which have achieved learndirect scotland branded status. learndirect scotland also runs Individual Learning Accounts (ILAS) via its ILA Scotland operation.

Macphail Centre, Ullapool
A learning and arts centre, providing a range of adult learning opportunities including ESOL, either through Adult Basic Education or an SQA certificate in conjunction with Skye & Wester Ross College. NHS Highland Health Promotion Department
The Health Promotion Department has a key role in collaborative, multi-agency working to support NHS Highland in its aim to improve the health of the population. The department also supports other agencies who have a health improvement remit, through advice, consultancy and training. Specialist staff develop and implement projects specific to their area of work. There is also a library of resource materials and literature on aspects of health promotion and public health which is open to anyone in Highland.

North Highland College
Helps students with their literacy needs, usually on a one-to-one basis, through extended learning support, core skills, drop-in centres, ESOL, Jobs-for-All (employment for special needs students) and additional coaching. The college is also piloting the CAVSS scheme where the literacies tutor works alongside the vocational specialist, dealing with numeracy/literacy issues as they arise. Tailor-made short courses are currently available in the Caithness which enable students to learn how to access learning materials via the Internet.

Sabhal Mor Ostaig
Scotland's only Gaelic-medium college and in addition to offering degrees in Gaelic and related studies, the College now offers a wide portfolio of learning opportunities through its Lifelong Learning Department. Is a Highland-wide project providing key support, guidance, training and supported employment opportunitites for unemployed adults who have experienced mental health issues. Volunteering Highland
Volunteering Highland is a non-profit making link between volunteers and voluntary organisations. They are a network of Volunteer Centres across the Highlands of Scotland with main office situated in Inverness. From 6 Area Offices they deliver core services throughout Highland. Working across the voluntary, public and private sectors, they aim to raise the profile of volunteering as a powerful force for change in people’s lives. They offer a volunteer recruitment service to appropriate organisations and provide information and advice to prospective volunteers.
