Apex Scotland
Apex Scotland is a national organisation that helps offenders, ex-offenders and young people at risk of offending to take the steps that will move them closer towards getting a job, training for work, or enrolling in a course at college. Locally, Apex has partnerships with organisations who work with people who have previous or stabilised substance misuse issues. Apex is a branded partner with LearnDirect Scotland and this works in parallel with the various courses its service users have access to and enhances their employment prospects.

BASiL+ Network
BASiL+ offers a range of courses and services to members of the community and local businesses. The Learning Centre works in partnership with Inverness College and Training & Adult Guidance (TAG), and has links with other organisations. . Courses are all part time and are available daytimes and evenings. A range of learndirect on-line learning courses can also be accessed. The centre is involved in a number of initiatives including the Simply Computing Project which uses IT to help ESOL learners to improve their literacy skills.

Careers Scotland
A government organisation for people of all ages, providing services to support career planning. The Careers Scotland network has centres across Scotland and they also meet with customers in a range of community locations. They use the latest technology to offer a service that is more convenient and they seek to provide assistance tailored to the customers' individual needs.

Calman Trust
The Calman Trust works with young people aged 16 to 25 around the theme of independent living skills. As part of this independence it is important that you can read, write and use numbers so that you can manage everyday tasks like paying bills and shopping on a budget. Eden Court Theatre
Out of Eden, the Education Department of Eden Court Theatre, partners other organisations to create projects involving drama and literacy skills. Behind the Scenes was a project with adults with learning difficulties looking at working from storytelling to simple script work and finally making a video film of people's written work. Another project used drama to work with people whose first language was not English. Currently, Eden Court is in partnership with Adult Basic Education to deliver Recording Music, a music and literacies course for young people which will result in a CD recording of the groups own lyrical efforts. Highland Council - Adult Basic Education Service
Offers free one-to-one and small group tuition in literacy, numeracy, ICT skills, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), and study support. The service is delivered by volunteer tutors (free training is available), supported by area-based Co-ordinators and a regional Strategy Officer. Highland Council - Community Learning and Leisure
Operating as part of the Council's Education Culture and Sport Service, Community Learning and Leisure operates library, archives, genealogical, leisure, arts heritage and community learning services. Mainly operating on an eight area basis, CLL offer learning opportunities ranging from informal guided access to information, through Adult Basic Education, to formal classes and instruction in subjects as wide as ICT to becoming a sports coach. Highland Council - Libraries
A network of 43 built and 12 mobile libraries support literacy initiatives in a number of ways. They provide on-line public internet access at all built libraries and they have made computer software for literacies learners available to every library in Highland through the People's Network. Librarians, ABE staff, tutors and learners have been trained in the use of these resources. They have established a website for Reader Development for adults with a particular focus on adults with low basic literacy skills.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE)
HIE is the development agency for the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. Its activities include provision of business support services, delivery of training and learning programmes, assistance for community and cultural projects and measures for environmental renewal. HIE offers a variety of skills development programmes such as Modern Apprenticeships, Skillseekers and Training for Work. Inverness College
Offers individual help to mainstream students through extended learning support. It also provides classes for students whose first language is not English. Skills workshops provide literacy, numeracy and IT support on a drop in basis.

Isle of Skye Language Centre
Located in Portree, the Isle of Skye Language Centre offers classes in all levels of ESOL from beginning to Cambridge Exam preparation and classes in other languages such as Spanish, French, and Czech. Isobel Rhind Centre
A Resource Centre and part of the Highland Council Social Work Service which provides day time activities for adults with learning disability in Easter Ross. The Isobel Rhind Centre aims to promote the service users' independence, provide a safe friendly environment and enhance the quality of life through mental and physical stimulation, encouragement and support. The Centre operates a person centred approach to care, involving opportunities for employment, education, community links, socialising, outdoor activities and much more. Lead Scotland
Enables disabled adults and carers to access education and learning opportunities. The local Organiser provides educational guidance and support in the home or at an agreed venue, offering confidentiality, involving trained volunteers. Work is in partnership with colleges, learning centres, and voluntary organisations to tailor support with learning to the needs of the individual. Most Organisers in Lead Scotland are recognised by learndirect as virtual learning centres. Learndirect Scotland
In direct support of the Scottish Governments Skills for Scotland strategy, the mission of learndirect scotland is to help individuals and small businesses across Scotland to realise their potential through learning, at a time, place, pace and style that suits their needs. A national network of over 500 Learning Centres offer a recognised resource within their community, providing safe, welcoming and supportive learning environments where learners can make guided choices about what, how and when they learn. Within Highland there are 42 learning centres which have achieved learndirect scotland branded status. learndirect scotland also runs Individual Learning Accounts (ILAS) via its ILA Scotland operation.

Macphail Centre, Ullapool
A learning and arts centre, providing a range of adult learning opportunites including ESOL. It has a networked suite of computers which can be used free of charge by adult learners. It can offer basic careers advice and arrange professional guidance at the centre.

NHS Highland Health Promotion Department
The Health Promotion Department has a key role in collaborative, multi-agency working to support NHS Highland in its aim to improve the health of the population. The department also supports other agencies who have a health improvement remit, through advice, consultancy and training. Specialist staff develop and implement projects specific to their area of work. There is also a library of resource materials and literature on aspects of health promotion and public health which is open to anyone in Highland.

North Highland College
Helps students with their literacy needs, usually on a one-to-one basis, through extended learning support, core skills, drop-in centres, ESOL, Jobs-for-All (employment for special needs students) and additional coaching. The college is also piloting the CAVSS scheme where the literacies tutor works alongside the vocational specialist, dealing with numeracy/literacy issues as they arise. Tailor-made short courses are currently available in the Caithness which enable students to learn how to access learning materials via the Internet.

Prince's Trust-Scotland
The Trust was set up by HRH the Prince of Wales to support 14-25 year-olds who face barriers in their lives. The Trust focuses on young people who have struggled at school, have been in care, are long-term unemployed or have been in trouble with the law. Since it was founded in 1976, The Prince's Trust has helped almost half a million young people through a number of innovative projects.

Sabhal Mor Ostaig
Scotland's only Gaelic-medium college and in addition to offering degrees in Gaelic and related studies, the College now offers a wide portfolio of learning opportunities through its Lifelong Learning Department. These learning opportunities include both short- and distance-learning courses in Gaelic and traditional music, and also the Gaelic Literacies' course, 'Cuir Peann ri Paipear'(Put Pen to Paper'), which has received funding from HALG. Skye and Lochalsh Learning Centre Network (SLLCN)
SLLCN offers a free service in the Skye and Lochalsh area, and is funded by Skye and Lochalsh Enterprise. They have learning centres based in Staffin, Portree, Sleat, Plockton and Auchtertyre and regular drop-ins are scheduled in Dunvegan and Broadford.
Specialist learning mentors offer advice on available learning opportunities and give help in accessing specialist services such as Careers Guidance or support for literacy needs. There are also tutored courses and learning with support from the learning mentors. The centres are equipped with up to date ICT equipment including fast internet connections. TAG Highland
Is a Highland-wide project providing key support, guidance, training and supported employment opportunitites for unemployed adults who have experienced mental health issues. TAG offers a flexible training programme at various levels tailored to learners'individual needs, including social and personal development, practical skills and core skills, in a positive and empathetic environment. TAG is also an accredited skills centre providing nationally recognised qualifications eg SQA and OCR.

Volunteering Highland
A network of volunteer centres spread throughout the Highland area which offer a free and friendly information service about volunteering and the many opportunities that are available in each area. They can also offer locally based training. The Centres are also actively involved with the Central Registered Body in Scotland, which provides free disclosures for volunteers and can also offer practical assistance as Registered Intermediary.
